Aftercare & Maintenance

Caring for your domli furniture helps preserve its natural beauty and ensures it lasts for years to come. Each piece is crafted from solid wood, a living material that will subtly change and mature over time. With a little love and care, it will continue to age gracefully.

Re-oiling

To keep your oiled furniture in its best condition, refresh the surface around every 12 months. This may vary depending on daily use and environment.

A well-maintained surface will have a soft sheen, and water will bead or form droplets.

If the wood looks dry or dull, or water no longer beads, it’s time to re-oil.

Cleaning

Clean gently with a mild solution of washing-up liquid and warm water, using a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

  1. Dust — Wipe away loose dust and dirt with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.
  2. Prepare — Mix a few drops of mild washing-up liquid into a bowl of warm water. Avoid using too much soap—less is more.
  3. Wipe — Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into the solution, wring it out thoroughly until just damp, and gently wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain.
  4. Dry — Immediately wipe with a dry cloth to remove any moisture, then allow the furniture to air dry in a well-ventilated space.

If an antibacterial cleaner is required, we recommend Osmo Anti-Bac Wood Cleaner — gentle on wood yet effective against bacteria.

Protection

  • Keep your furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, and areas with large changes in humidity.
  • Use coasters, placemats, and protective pads to help prevent heat marks, stains, and scratches.

Maintenance

For light marks or fine scratches, use the Habiol Standard Maintenance Kit

  • Gently sand the affected area with the fine sanding block, then reapply oil.
  • For larger or more noticeable wear, sand and re-oil the full surface for an even, consistent finish.

Avoid

  • Please avoid using strong cleaning agents, solvents, or abrasive materials.
  • Do not soak or leave standing water on wooden surfaces — excess moisture can cause damage over time.

Please note

This guidance applies only to oiled finishes.

If you’ve selected a raw or sanded finish, aftercare will depend on the finishing product you choose to apply.

Premium Range - Desks, Tables & More

Aftercare & Maintenance

Our Premium Range includes Natural (Light Oak), Pure, Charcoal, Antique Bronze and Premium Solid Oak Live Edge finishes — each designed to bring natural character and longevity to your space.

Re-oiling

Every piece is finished with a high-performance natural oil that offers exceptional durability and long-lasting protection.

Routine re-oiling isn’t required, but if you’d like to revive the surface after several years of use, please get in touch with us for guidance on the correct oil and colour tone.

Protection

To preserve the natural quality of the wood:

  • Keep away from direct sunlight, radiators and areas with fluctuating humidity.
  • Use coasters, placemats and protective pads to prevent marks or scratches.
  • Avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the surface.

Cleaning

For regular cleaning, use Rubio Monocoat All Natural Wood Cleaner Spray with a soft microfibre cloth.
Wipe spills immediately to prevent moisture damage or staining.

Maintenance & Stain Removal

For more stubborn marks, use the Rubio Monocoat Aftercare or Stain Removal Kit. Begin with the All Natural Wood Cleaner Spray, then apply the appropriate remover if needed:

  • Limespot Remover – for mineral or water-based stains
  • Grease Remover – for oil or food-based stains
  • Tannin Remover – for darker or unknown stains
  • If you’re unsure of the cause, start with Limespot Remover and work through in order as required.

Avoid

  • Do not use harsh cleaning products, solvents or abrasive materials.
  • Do not soak or leave standing water on wooden surfaces — excess moisture can cause lasting damage.

Solid Wood Worktops

Aftercare & Maintenance

Crafted from natural materials, our solid wood worktops are designed to age gracefully with the right care and attention.

Re-Oiling

Re-oil every six months during the first year, then once annually to maintain a rich, protective finish.

In high-use areas, such as around sinks and hobs, more frequent treatment may be required.

Use a high-quality natural oil such as Osmo TopOil, applying evenly along the grain for the best results.

Protection

Wood naturally responds to its environment. To keep your worktop in its best condition:

  • Avoid direct sunlight, radiators and sudden changes in humidity.
  • Use coasters, placemats and protective pads to prevent marks and scratches.
  • Never place hot items directly on the surface — use heat-resistant mats or trivets beneath pans, kettles and appliances.
  • Always use a chopping board; avoid cutting directly on the wood to protect both the surface and the finish.
  • Avoid placing bare metal containers (such as iron, copper or aluminium) directly on the surface, as these can cause staining or discolouration.

Cleaning

For everyday cleaning, use warm water with a mild washing-up liquid and a soft, lint-free cloth.

Wipe spills immediately to prevent water marks or staining.

If an antibacterial cleaner is required, we recommend Osmo Anti-Bac Wood Cleaner — gentle on wood yet effective against bacteria.

Maintenance

For light surface marks, use the Osmo Maintenance Kit.

Gently sand the affected area with a fine sanding block, then reapply oil.

For deeper repairs, lightly sand the surface with fine-grit paper (120–180 grit) in the direction of the grain, remove all dust, and re-oil for an even finish.

When water no longer beads on the surface, or the finish appears dull, it’s time to reapply oil.

Avoid

  • Harsh chemicals, solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Leaving standing water or damp cloths on the surface.
  • Excessive heat or moisture exposure over time.

Sanded-Only Worktops

Before installation, apply three coats of Osmo TopOil to all surfaces and four to five coats to the end grain and edges. This step is not required for pre-oiled worktops.

Chopping & Serving Boards

Aftercare & Maintenance

Crafted from solid wood, every domli board is designed to grow more beautiful with use. With the correct care, your board will serve faithfully for years to come — developing a natural patina that reflects its daily use and character.

Re-Oiling

Regular oiling keeps your board nourished and water-resistant. Use domli Mineral Oil for Wood (or another food-safe mineral oil) and reapply as needed whenever the surface feels dry — this may be weekly or monthly, depending on usage.

  1. Apply a thin, even layer of oil across the surface using a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2. Allow 20–30 minutes for the oil to soak in.
  3. Wipe away any excess and leave to dry for 6–8 hours before use.

Protection

To preserve the natural beauty of your board:

  • Avoid placing hot, wet or dirty pans directly on the surface.
  • Do not allow liquids to pool — standing water can cause swelling or staining.
  • Always use the board on a clean, stable surface and rotate its use to promote even wear.
  • Never put your board in a dishwasher — the combination of heat and moisture will damage the wood.

Cleaning

After each use:

  • Wipe with warm water and a mild washing-up liquid using a soft, damp cloth.
  • Rinse lightly and dry immediately with a clean towel.
  • Stand upright or on its edge to air dry completely before storing.

For occasional deep cleaning or to remove odours:

  • Sprinkle coarse salt over the surface and rub gently with half a lemon.
  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry fully before re-oiling.

If additional antibacterial cleaning is required, use a food-safe solution such as diluted white vinegar or Osmo Anti-Bac Wood Cleaner, both of which are gentle yet effective on natural wood. Please rinse thoroughly with water before next use.

Maintenance

  • When water beads on the surface, your board is well protected.
  • When the wood appears dull or begins to absorb moisture, it’s time to reapply oil.
  • For light marks or surface wear, sand gently with fine-grit paper (180–240 grit) in the direction of the grain, then reapply oil.
  • If deep cracks or splits develop that cannot be restored, it may be time to replace your board.

Hygiene

For the best food hygiene:

  • Use separate boards for raw meats, fish, and ready-to-eat foods.
  • Clean thoroughly after contact with raw ingredients and re-oil once dry to reseal the surface.

Avoid

  • Harsh chemicals, bleach or abrasive cleaners.
  • Soaking or prolonged exposure to water.
  • Direct sunlight or high heat sources during storage.
  • Sealing the board with cooking oils such as olive or vegetable oil, which can spoil over time.

Storage

Store your board upright in a dry, well-ventilated space.

Ensure it is completely dry before storing to prevent warping or mildew.
