The Product & Material

We manufacture all wooden products using timber from sustainable sources. We care deeply about the longevity of our products, suppliers and sourcing to ensure that our entire business model is sustainable from the outset.

Wood, the primary material in all of our products, is inherently sustainable if managed correctly. We only purchase timber from sources with established replanting programmes and full certification.

Our product design policy aims to achieve zero product wastage. So, when sizeable products are returned or unsuitable, we can use the material to manufacture smaller ones. We then use any waste wood as fuel in our biomass burner, and other items are recycled.

We use natural, biodegradable oil to finish most of our products, avoiding harsh chemicals. Our accessory products, including shelf brackets and legs, are made from reclaimed or recyclable materials whenever possible.

We work closely with all our suppliers, making regular visits to ensure they adhere to ethical business practices.

Contemporary, minimalist design is our core design ethos; we create products that will last a lifetime if properly cared for.

The Company

Sustainability is at the heart of our company.

Compared to our output, we are a relatively small company with a small footprint. We don't use much energy to begin with - at least in comparison to larger furniture companies. We utilise automation and hybrid working wherever possible to enhance efficiency.

Rather excitingly, we have devised our own business park and design centre, which has sustainability and environmental efficiency at its heart. Industry and the environment can coexist with environmentally friendly building materials powered by renewable energy sources, such as biomass, solar, and rainwater harvesting, as well as an equal proportion of green space in urban areas, an attenuation pond, and other sustainable features. It will be a place that everyone at domli will be proud to call their second home! Construction is well underway, and we look forward to moving in this autumn.

As we continue to scale, our vision is to incorporate low-carbon deliveries using our own local fleet, thereby reducing emissions and improving efficiency through the use of best-in-class route optimisation software.

The Impact

In 2023, we decided to partner with Ecologi, whose mission is to inspire and empower businesses to accelerate global action on climate and nature. Since initiating this partnership, we have already funded the planting of over 30,000 trees and offset more than 10 tonnes of CO2 across two global projects.

Our policy from the outset has been to plant one tree for every order placed - and thanks to the domli community, this initiative has truly blossomed.
